The Image of Research

The Image of Research is an annual exhibit competition for graduate students at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), which I initiated and developed in 2007 and directed until July 2015. Each year, UIC graduate students are invited to submit a photograph that encapsulates their research along with a brief abstract explaining their work. A multi-disciplinary faculty jury reviews the submissions and selects winners whose images are displayed in an exhibit in the University Library and printed on banners hung around campus. In 2014, a moving image category was added.

As project director for The Image of Research, my responsibilities included publicizing the competition, organizing the submissions for jurying, inviting jurors, overseeing the jurying process, coordinating with the student winners and finalists and producing all aspects of the exhibition, including text panels and catalogue.
